Lambda Chapter boasts beautiful and widely renowned Pinehurst, North Carolina as its birthplace. Hattie S. Parrott, Eta State President, organized Lambda Chapter during the 1941 Convention at the Pinehurst Hotel. Charter members of Lambda were as follows: Mrs. J.H. Lambda was chartered on April 20, 1941, and members gathered one year later at Flora Macdonald College for formal organization. Originally, Lambda encompassed Moore, Lee, Harnett, Richmond, Cumberland, Hoke, Scotland, and Robeson counties. Several expansions occurred over the next years:
In 1949, Richmond County members affiliated with the newly formed Tau Chapter.
On April 1, 1950, Lambda sponsored Phi Chapter’s organization which was overseen by Miss Grace Van Dyke More, Eta State President. Member s from Harnett, Lee, and Moore counties were absorbed in this new chapter, and from 1951-1960, Lambda Chapter included Hoke, Cumberland, Robeson, and Scotland counties.
In April 1961, the 20th anniversary of the founding of Lambda Chapter, members voted to divide the chapter—members from Robeson and Scotland counties would remain as Lambda. On May 20, 1961, at a special meeting on Lumberton, the new chapter named Alpha Tau was formed.
Gamma Gamma Chapter was organized at historic Temperance Hall in Wagram, NC, on April 3, 1976. Charter members from Lambda were the following:

On September 17, 1992, Lambda expanded once more—this time with many of the Scotland County members beginning a new chapter named Delta Omicron. At a chartering ceremony organized by Lambda President Nancy McBryde at the Gilbert Patterson Memorial Library in Maxton, twenty seven members from Lambda formed the new Delta Omicron Chapter as follows:
